A very uniform hardwood works best. Cut your wood planks down to square profile blanks.The blank size just slightly larger than the dowel you are trying to make and taper the starting end. The connection between the wooden strip and the power tool should be as concentric as possible. During the operation, keep pushing horizontally and at a constant speed. If the resistance is large, slow down the pushing speed instead of using more force. When making a larger diameter dowel, it will be easier to make it by first passing it through a hole larger than the target diameter, and then through the hole of the target diameter.
